Hamburg/Erding, 8 September 2021 – Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH is developing a sorting centre for Amazon in Erding, 30 kilometres north-east of Munich. The excavation work for the new building, which will have a floor area of around 5,200 square metres, has already begun. The property is scheduled to be ready for occupancy in the second quarter of 2022.
“Interaction with the city administration went smoothly throughout the entire planning process for the project”, says Jan Dietrich Hempel, Managing Director of Garbe Industrial Real Estate, highlighting the good cooperation with the City of Erding. The sorting centre is being built on a 27,000 square metre site on the Erding-Nordwest industrial estate. At this location, the online retailer will sort customer order packages by postcode and transport them from there by truck to the distribution centres. Amazon will create up to 150 new jobs for the handling operations on a floor area of around 5,200 square metres. Parking spaces for trucks, cars and bicycles are planned for the outdoor area.
The industrial estate is located in the Klettham district of Erding, just a few hundred metres from the airport expressway. It connects the site with Munich Airport, which is twelve kilometres away, and the Munich – Deggendorf motorway 92. Numerous destinations on the outskirts of Munich can also be reached quickly via the nearby Ismaning – Greater Passau federal highway 388.
“With the construction of the sorting centre in Erding, we are continuing our many years of successful cooperation with Amazon”, says Jan Dietrich Hempel. For the online retailer, the project developer from Hamburg has already constructed logistics centres in Dortmund and Achim near Bremen, as well as distribution centres in Emden, Kaiserslautern and Meßkirch in the Lake Constance region. The distribution centre in Giengen an der Brenz in eastern Baden-Württemberg is under construction. It is scheduled for completion in April of next year.
The real estate service provider CBRE acted as an intermediary and advisor for the leasing in Erding.
