Employer Garbe Industrial Real Estate makes it onto the winner’s podium
News 26/02/2021
Constance/Hamburg – The real estate specialist Garbe is one of the best employers in Germany. On the basis of a scientifically sound employee and management survey, the Center for Employer Attractiveness (zeag GmbH) annually honors the most attractive employers of German SMEs. The “Top Job Seal 2021” is awarded by former Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel as patron. The Hanseatic medium-sized company impressed with its motivating, dynamic corporate culture and achieved third place in the ranking of employers of the year.
The Hamburg-based expert for logistics and corporate real estate has been awarded the Top Job Seal for the second time in a row. The analysis carried out by the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen attests to Garbe’s excellent qualities as an employer: Especially in the areas of motivation & dynamics as well as culture & communication, the approval ratings of the employees were so good that the real estate specialist received the bronze medal in the size class up to 250 employees.
“We are proud of the double award,” says co-managing director Jan Dietrich Hempel. The good employee feedback is not a matter of course for the real estate company: “We have grown enormously in recent years, every employee had to cope with special burdens, because the market environment is very competitive. Nevertheless, the fluctuation remained low,” reports Jan Dietrich Hempel. The benchmark through Top Job is therefore a clear statement by the company to continue to work specifically on employer attractiveness and employee satisfaction.
In return, the anonymous survey is also appreciated by the workforce – almost 90 percent of colleagues took part in the scientifically supported survey. “The top job analysis is seen by employees as a great opportunity to help shape and be directly involved in company decisions,” comments Hempel.
Garbe already developed concrete measures from the last employee survey. For example, at the request of the employees, the mission statement and the corporate culture were revised and coordinated in project groups. Another key role is played by the opportunity to help shape the future of the company. At Garbe, every employee can bring entrepreneurial ideas into the discussion, which are taken up in the team across disciplines and even brought to market maturity.
It is therefore the combination of entrepreneurial and personal interest of the workforce to drive development at Garbe that ensures an inspiring corporate culture. “At the same time, the employees also experience the solidarity of the management, which takes care of individual concerns. Thus, personal development is a central concern of the management. In internal and external training courses, employees are individually supported and talents are developed. Career opportunities within the company also result from an agile team structure that allows employees to work in a project-oriented manner. Garbe also promotes internships and dual study programs.
Garbe will in turn take the results of the current Top Job Survey as an opportunity to find out in dialogue with the employee which processes can be further optimized in order to become an even better employer.
Employee feedback makes sense in times of crisis
Conducting employee surveys during the Corona period is a concern for the “Top Job” team. “Our studies show that even – and above all – in times of crisis, good employers should know what the working atmosphere in their company is like,” reports Prof. Dr. Heike Bruch, head of the Institute for Leadership and Human Resources Management at the University of St. Gallen. “Because qualified feedback from employees is the basis for a strong, crisis-resilient corporate culture.”
The award-winning companies are now allowed to carry the “Top Job” seal for the next two years. 57 percent of employers are family businesses. Of the award-winning employers, 37 percent are national and 5 percent are world market leaders. On average, the companies employ 272 people and the proportion of women in management positions is on average 23%. All award-winning companies can be found on www.topjob.de.
The employer program “Top Job”
With “Top Job”, medium-sized companies work on their qualities as employers. The seal makes their attractiveness visible to applicants. The award is based on an extensive employee and management survey. It is organized by zeag GmbH, Center for Employer Attractiveness, based in Constance on Lake Constance. The scientific management of the benchmarking is in the hands of Prof. Dr. Heike Bruch and her team from the Institute for Leadership and Human Resource Management at the University of St. Gallen. Patron of the project is Sigmar Gabriel.
